Here is an extract from an email sent to me from Peter Wilkinson - Sales Manager at Cryogenic Technology Ltd. Dated 29/11/2005
‘…we are the manufacturers of the following systems..CryoStar, CryoPac and CryoStat, these were initially introduced to the American market some 2 years ago and have proved to be very successful (TTS being one of the areas that this works with very well)..our investment into this market (FDA approval, medical trials etc) meant that the introduction of these systems to the UK had to wait until these procedures were embedded and fully operational in the US market. We are just reaching that stage now.
Last week we had verbal confirmation of CE mark approval on these systems, we are currently waiting for written approval which means we can then initiate clinical trials in the UK.
Unfortunately despite the fact that these procedures have been used successfully in the US, we still have to go through the process of trailing in the UK, as most surgeons disregard US data and the NHS will not even consider these systems until clinical trials have ratified the procedures…this obviously limits the availability of this procedure.
In saying this there are many people like yourself who require access to this form of minimally invasive surgery…my aim from the sales perspective is to try to get these systems placed in private practices where the podiatric surgeons involved can utilise the procedures outside of the NHS confines (obviously that means a cost to the client.)…’
